The CIWG Sub-Category Advantage

A major component of DASA is the Children of Indian Workers in Gulf Countries (CIWG) sub-category.

2. Key Component Details

A. Non-Refundable Registration Fee

• Policy: Non-refundable under all circumstances, even if the candidate withdraws, fails document verification, or is not allotted a seat.

B. Tuition Fee & Semester Costs

• CIWG Candidates: Pay tuition fees equivalent to domestic Indian students—₹62,500 per semester (or ₹1,25,000 per year), totaling roughly ₹5,00,000 for the entire 8-semester B.Tech program.

• Regular DASA (Non-SAARC): Pay US $4,000 per semester (or US $8,000 per year), totaling US $32,000 in tuition across 8 semesters.

• Regular DASA (SAARC): Candidates who are foreign nationals of SAARC nations receive a 50% waiver on international tuition fees, paying US $2,000 per semester.

C. The Dual Choice (CIWG + Regular DASA) Provision

Gulf-based candidates can choose to be considered for both CIWG seats (1/3rd reserved pool) and general DASA seats to maximize their chances:

• During registration, candidates selecting this option must pay the Regular DASA higher slab upfront (US $4,300).

• If the candidate is ultimately allotted a seat under the CIWG category, the excess tuition paid (US $4,000 minus ₹62,500) is refunded to the candidate’s registered bank account.

• If allotted a seat under the Regular DASA category, no refund is issued, and the standard international fee structure applies for subsequent semesters.

3. Additional Institute-Level Expenses

The initial payment made on the DASA portal covers only the central application registration fee and the 1st-semester base tuition fee. When physically reporting to the allotted institute (NIT/IIIT/CFTI), candidates must pay the remaining local charges directly in INR:

• Hostel & Mess Charges: Vary by institute (~₹30,000 – ₹60,000 per semester).

• Caution Deposit: One-time refundable fee (~₹5,000 – ₹10,000).

• Other Institutional Fees: Student activity fund, library, laboratory, medical insurance, and examination charges (~₹10,000 – ₹25,000 per year).
